Today we are looking at 2 massive shifts in tech and science that are changing how we live and how we understand the mind.
First, online shopping is getting faster than ever. In India, a service called Flipkart Minutes is delivering groceries to people in just 11 minutes. This service is owned by Walmart, and it is growing very fast. They make these quick deliveries by using "dark stores", which are small neighborhood warehouses closed to the public. These spaces are used only to pack orders immediately. The service now handles over 1.1 million orders every single day. Flipkart wants to build 1,500 of these small warehouses by the year 2026. This trend matters because it shows how instant delivery is becoming the normal way to shop.
While shopping speeds up, scientists are finding ways to slow the body down. Researchers in Japan successfully put mice into a deep sleep, which is very similar to hibernation. They did this by turning on "Q-neurons", which are special brain cells that control body temperature and energy. During this sleep, the body temperature of the mice fell to 20 degrees Celsius.
Surprisingly, this deep sleep caused the mice to lose over 50 percent of their "synapses", which are the physical connections between brain cells. Usually, scientists believe that memories are stored in these connections. They thought that if the connections disappeared, the memories would be lost forever.
However, when the mice woke up, they still kept their memories. This is a major discovery because it shows our brains might store memories in ways we do not yet understand. It could help us find new ways to treat memory loss in humans. Whether we are speeding up our daily errands or slowing down the brain to unlock its secrets, science continues to surprise us.
