Two big changes are coming to the gadgets we use every day, bringing better phone privacy and more affordable laptops.
First, a highly secure phone operating system called GrapheneOS is coming to Motorola devices in 2027. An operating system is the main software that runs a phone. GrapheneOS is a private version of the Android system that blocks tracking and protects your personal data. Right now, this software only works on Google Pixel phones. However, Google phones are becoming harder for developers to support. Soon, GrapheneOS will expand to high-end Motorola models, including their folding flip phones. Motorola is working directly with the software creators to build ultra-secure hardware. Cheaper Motorola phones might get this software later, but only if the company promises to support them with updates for 7 years.
Second, computer makers are finding new ways to build cheaper laptops that still run fast. A computer company called Chuwi just released the Unibook laptop for a starting price of $449. It uses a new budget processor, which is the main computer chip that acts as the brain of the laptop. This chip is made by Intel using modern technology, rather than using slow, outdated parts. Other brands like Dell and Acer are also releasing similar budget laptops starting between $599 and $699. While the Chuwi Unibook has a great keyboard and 8GB of memory, the trackpad is hard to use and the frame feels thin.
These updates matter because they give you more control over your data and your wallet. You will soon have more choices if you want a highly secure phone that does not track your moves. At the same time, computer brands are finally trying to build budget laptops that do not lag. Finding a great, cheap computer is still difficult because memory parts are expensive right now, but the options are slowly improving.
