Instead of selling it as an integrated drone, the company is marketing the device as a handheld stabilizer camera that gains flight capabilities via optional, snap-on propeller attachments. Because the propeller wings lack wireless transmitters, only the camera unit required FCC approval, which it quietly secured on August 9.
However, this clever loophole may prove short-lived. The FCC reserves the right to categorize the camera as a critical unmanned aircraft component, giving regulators a brief window to rescind the authorization.
