How the new Siri turned into a smart chatbot in iOS 27

Apple is giving its virtual assistant a massive upgrade. For years, Siri lagged behind other smart tools. Now, with the upcoming iOS 27 update, Siri turned into a conversational chatbot with its own dedicated app. This upgrade uses Apple Intelligence, which is Apple's new artificial intelligence system designed to make your phone much smarter.

The new setup lets you type back and forth with the assistant, just like you would with ChatGPT. However, not every iPhone user will get to experience this change right away.

What You Need to Run It

To use the new assistant, you must have an iPhone 15 Pro or a newer model. Standard iPhone 15 models and older phones will still use the older, classic version of Siri. You also need to run the iOS 27 software, which is currently in public beta, meaning a test version before the official launch. The update will release to everyone for free in the fall. For now, the new features only work in English, and they are not available in China or the European Union due to local regulations.

How the New App Works

Once you turn on the service in your settings menu, you can open a standalone Siri app. This app saves your past chats and syncs them across your devices using iCloud, which is Apple's online storage service. You can type questions, upload photos or documents for Siri to look at, and ask about your personal emails or text messages. If you want to clear your chat history, you can set it to delete automatically after 30 days or 1 year.

You do not have to open the app every time you want help. You can still hold down the side power button on your phone to talk. You can also swipe down from the Dynamic Island, which is the black pill-shaped cut-out at the top of your screen, to quickly type a question. This makes it easy to get quick answers while you are using other apps.
